Who We Serve
Focused today. Greater impact tomorrow. Our work concentrates on the children whose communication and learning needs are too often overlooked.
Three groups, one shared barrier
Although each child has unique strengths and needs, these children often encounter similar challenges related to communication, access to information, inclusive learning and participation.
Children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
Children with hearing loss often face barriers to language acquisition, classroom participation and social connection long before they reach school. We work to ensure that sign language, accessible communication and inclusive teaching reach them early.
The Barrier
Hearing loss that is identified late limits language development during the years when the brain is most ready to learn. Families may not know where to seek support, schools may lack sign language capacity, and communities may not understand how to include a Deaf child in everyday life.
How We Respond
- Promote early identification and timely referral pathways. Advance sign language for children, families, teachers and communities. Support schools to provide accessible classroom communication. Strengthen the confidence and knowledge of parents and caregivers.
Children who are Non-Verbal
A child without functional speech still has a voice. We promote Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC), assistive technologies and communication-friendly environments so that every child can express needs, ideas and choices.
The Barrier
Without an alternative means of expression, non-verbal children are frequently underestimated, excluded from decisions about their own lives, and denied access to learning that matches their ability.
How We Respond
- Introduce and support Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC). Provide assistive technologies and accessible learning materials. Train parents and teachers in practical communication strategies. Build communication-friendly homes, classrooms and community spaces.
Children who are Blind or Visually Impaired
Access to information is the foundation of learning. We support Braille, accessible learning materials and assistive technology so that children who are blind or visually impaired can learn, participate and progress alongside their peers.
The Barrier
Where Braille materials, orientation support and accessible teaching resources are unavailable, children who are blind or visually impaired fall behind not because of ability, but because information is out of reach.
How We Respond
- Expand access to Braille and accessible learning materials. Support schools with inclusive classroom practice and adapted resources. Promote assistive technologies that widen access to information. Empower families with guidance, information and referral support.
